A 20-year-old man from Ivory Park was shot dead during an attempted cash-in-transit heist at Swazi Inn in Tembisa on Wednesday afternoon.

It appears the man was a bystander and was caught in the crossfire between the suspects and security guards.

“Suspects, still at large, attempted to steal money from a G4S vehicle at Swazi Inn in Temong Section when a shootout ensued between the security guards and the suspects,” said Capt Manyadza Ralidzhivha, spokesperson for Tembisa SAPS.

“A man was shot during the incident. His body was found 50 metres from the scene.”

The suspects fled the scene and the guards were unharmed.

“We are not sure how many suspects were present but it is spoken about eight suspects or more,” said Ralidzhivha.

“One of G4S’ security guards’ firearm was stolen from the scene. No arrests have been made and the matter is under investigation.”
