Huge areas of Kempton Park are without electricity this morning.

Power will be gradually restored from 7.30am and everything should be back on by 10am.

According to a notice from Ekurhuleni Municipality the outage is affecting Glen Marais, Glen Erasmia, Norkem Park, Birchleigh, Birchleigh North, Esselen Park, Pomona and Bredell.

Ward councillor Jaco Terblanche said Bonaero Park, Nimrod Park, Aston Manor and Allen Grove are also without electricity.

Ekurhuleni said a team is attending to the problem. The load will be constantly monitored as power is being restored to avoid another overload trip.

Two main oil-filled cables are currently out of service due to maintenance, hence the network tripped on overload. Maintenance on at least one cable is expected to be completed by Sunday to fully stabilise the supply of electricity to the areas.

This is the second major outage in Kempton Park this week. Many residents were also without electricity on Monday night.
