Car hijacked in Tembisa involved in high-speed chase

The car links to an alleged hijacking three months ago.

A high-speed car chase from Van Riebeeck Park to Edleen in Kempton Park led to the arrest of two suspects at around 1.30am on Friday.

Reportedly, the male suspects, aged 31 and 34, were driving a stolen car.

According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, the chase ensued after patrolling Norkem Park SAPS sector members spotted a suspicious white Toyota Corolla.

“The driver sped off when it noticed the police van,” Molokomme told Express. “In Plataan Avenue, Edleen, officers Const Ntsieni Nkumeleni and Const Tumelo Moloto managed to corner the two suspects.”

The suspects were found in possession of a toy gun, gloves, reflector jackets and a bag of clothes. An investigation confirmed the car was reported stolen after a hijacking in Tembisa on February 17.

“A taxi driver picked up two male clients in Stanza Bopape Street when a suspect pointed a gun at him and robbed him of his car, cellphones, bank cards and cash,” Molokomme added.
