Two suspects in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle were arrested on May 18.
Captain Mofana Masela said at about 1.30am on May 18, Norkem Park SAPS members arrested two male suspects in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle at Plataan Street, Edleen.
“Constable Ntsieni Marcus Nkumeleni and Constable Tumelo Kwena Moloto were doing their patrols when they spotted a white Toyota Corolla with two occupants.
“The car looked suspicious to the SAPS members as it drove off at a high speed after noticing the police van.
“The chase ensued from Van Riebeeck Park and in Plataan Street, Edleen, the officers managed to corner the two suspects after they stopped their car,” said Masela.
He said when police officers searched the suspects and the car, a white Toyota Corolla, the suspects were found in possession of a toy gun, pairs of gloves, reflector jackets and a bunch of clothes.
“When police checked the status of the car, it was found to have been reported hijacked in Tembisa during February.
“The victim, who is a taxi driver, alleged on February 17 at about 11.23pm he was called for a pick up from around Tembisa to Hospital View.
“The victim picked up two male clients and along Stanza Bopape Street in Hospital View the two passengers pointed at the driver with a firearm and robbed him of his car, cellphones, bank cards and cash.
“He further alleged they drove with him until they dropped him in the Daveyton area,” said Masela.
Police investigations will continue to find out if the suspects (31 and 34 years old) are linked to other crimes in the cluster.
Other arrests made by the Norkem Park police from May 20 consists of two house break-ins and theft, one possession of a dagger, one possession of suspected stolen property and three for common assault under domestic violence.
The arrested suspects will appear in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court soon.
