Hijackers of hearse kidnap driver and rape hitchhiker

The hijacked hearse was found abandoned in Umthambeka Section.

Four men hijacked a white Mercedes Benz Vito hearse and forcefully took the driver along after pistol-whipping him on May 27.

EMPD spokesperson chief superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said the incident took place in Umthambeka Section where the driver of the hearse was surprised by four armed assailants while opening the gate to his residence.

“The hijackers drove around with the driver who had sustained serious injuries inflicted by the robbers. Apparently, while driving around, the hijackers gave a woman a lift and took turns in raping her inside the hijacked hearse.

“In the early hours of May 28, the injured driver was dumped at Entshonalanga Section where community members helped him to report the case at the Tembisa Police Station. It is not known as to what happened to the woman hitchhiker. The police are investigating,” said Kgasago.

The hijacked hearse was found abandoned in Umthambeka Section.

The vehicle was recovered on May 28 at around 5am in Tembisa by the EMPD Community Liaison Unit members through the vehicle tracking system.

The vehicle was taken to the SAPS Van Ryn pound in Benoni for further investigations.
