Local businessman Melusi Khumalo of Kanana Section was robbed of R10 800 cash on May 29.
According to the Rabie Ridge SAPS communications officer, Captain Mofana Masela, the complainant took second-hand aluminium to sell in Germiston.
“He managed to get R28 257 for the aluminium. He then drove back to Festival Mall in Kempton Park to cash in the cheque. At about 12.35 pm, when he drove back to his home in Kanana, he noticed a BMW car that was following him. He stopped at his gate and he saw two African males from the BMW coming towards him.
“He suspected a robbery and jumped out of his bakkie and ran into his yard. The two men followed him to his shack and pointed him with firearms. They demanded the money and took his jacket in which he kept the R10 800 cash,” said Masela.
Masela said it is believed the two suspects followed the complainant from Germiston to the bank and they saw where he placed the money.
“We are appealing to community members not to be alone when they go to withdraw a large sum of money. Also, be observant of your surroundings. If you suspect some criminal behaviour, go to your nearest police station or service station where you can be safe or call the police. Don’t drive straight to your home. Be careful of auspicious people around banks and business premises,” added Masela.
