TODAY IN HISTORY: Bank card snatcher’s thieving days at ATMs are over

The 28-year-old suspect appeared in court where he faced common robbery charges

A bank card snatcher’s fraudulent ways came to an end when he was caught out by a private investigator on Thursday last week.

The private investigator, according to Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, was on duty and monitoring thieves who steal cash from people withdrawing at ATMs.

He was observing their movements at a Standard Bank ATM on the corner of Voortrekker and Park streets in the CBD.

“At about 9.15am, a man approached the ATM and as he took out his bank card, the suspect came out of nowhere and snatched the card. The alert investigator saw this and chased after the suspect,” Mtshali explained.
