At least four armed suspects are at large after robbing a delivery van at Glen Acres Shopping Centre this afternoon (Friday).
According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, two men were delivering goods to Dis-Chem between noon and 1pm when the suspects approached them.
“The two victims were locked inside the vehicle by the suspects, who then stole cellphones that were to be delivered to the store,” Mtshali told Express. He said the incident took place at the delivery entrance of the store. No one was injured.
Police arrived on the scene at about 12.45pm and a case of robbery is being investigated.
Mtshali said drivers should always be alert of cars that might be following them, especially delivery vehicles because they are being targeted.
Express spoke to the store manager of Dis-Chem at about 5pm, but he did not want to comment: “it is a sensitive matter and the police are investigating,” he said.
Shoppers on the premises seemed unaware of the robbery that took place earlier the day, going about their usual business. Two car guards said they weren’t on duty when the event took place.
