Norkem Park SAPS shuts down two illegal shebeens

If each person had one drink, enough alcohol to serve about 467 people was confiscated.

About 140 litres of alcohol, which in perspective would fill about 467 small cans of beer, were confiscated during two shebeen shutdowns over the past weekend.

According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, members were in full force to focus on crime hot spots.

Friday’s operations saw the shutdown of an illegal shebeen on Gamtoos Street.

“The liquor confiscated was about 8.5 litres,” Molokomme told Express.

An illegal shebeen on Handel Street was next on Saturday, where about 132 litres of alcohol were confiscated.

Both suspects were fined R1 500 each for selling liquor without a licence.
