The influence of development on reptiles, amphibians to be discussed
Warren spends many mornings searching for lizards and snakes while tripping over birders trying to catch their targets catching early worms
The impact of current urban developments on local amphibians and reptiles will be the theme of Modderfontein Conservation Society’s evening talk on June 21.
The speaker is Warren Schmidt of Biodiversity Nature, who has spent time studying these urban impacts at a site just a few kilometres from the Modderfontein Reserve.
The meeting takes place at Modderfontein Town Hall, 1 Casino Road, at 7.30pm.
Author of Reptiles and Amphibians of Southern Africa, Warren spends many mornings searching for lizards and snakes while tripping over birders trying to catch their targets catching early worms. He avoids generating peculiar looks of disbelief by pretending to be one of the many birders rather than a singular herper (or snake fancier).
Warren has worked as a curator of reptiles at Transvaal Snake Park and farm manager at Kwena Gardens Crocodile Sanctuary. He has enjoyed a lifelong interest in reptiles and amphibians and is a long-standing member of a number of herpetological societies.
Warren currently works as a photographer, writer and photojournalist.
