Five suspects’ plan to steal copper and aluminium cables was foiled when they were caught red-handed on Thursday morning in a joint police operation.
According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, officers and private investigators from Telkom and Eskom put their heads together to catch the alleged criminals.
Thanks to these officers, five men have been arrested for possession of alleged stolen cables. Front: Const Gabisile Mncina and Const Motlatso Maifalo. Back Const Mashilo Seakamela, Capt James Musekwa, Col Malesela Mapulane, Const Yvonne Langa and Wilfred Molabo. Photograph: Norkem Park SAPS
“The team was following information about the suspects at 6am, when they cornered all five at a storage unit on Energy Road in Chloorkop,” Molokomme said. The thieves were loading their loot onto a truck.
Cables worth of R885 000 were found.
The arrested suspects, aged between 24 and 45, will face charges of possession of stolen copper and aluminium cables.
