Fight over Bredell electricity bill leads to 16 months behind bars

The victim was assaulted with a pick handle.

Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court sentenced David Makonde (36) to 16 months imprisonment or a R8 000 fine on June 8.

Makonde was sentenced for assault and malicious damage to property for an incident that in Bredell on May 2, last year.

“The accused had an argument with his landlord over the non-payment of an electricity bill,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.

“Subsequent to the accused assaulting the victim with a pick handle, the victim reported the matter to the police and Makonde was arrested later the same day at the premises.

“The case was investigated by D/Sgt Welcome Shabalala and after a marathon trial, the accused was sentenced.
