Man released from hospital nabbed for kidnapping, raping sister’s friend

The suspect was located in Rabie Ridge at 2pm and was immediately arrested

A man was arrested for kidnapping, assaulting and repeatedly raping his sister’s friend.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said it all started with the victim agreeing to a friend’s request to fetch the friend’s brother who had just been discharged from Tembisa Hospital on June 12.

“The 21-year-old woman agreed and was given taxi fare and picked up the man from the hospital.

“On the way back from the hospital instead of travelling straight to Ebony Park, the man requested the young woman to accompany him to his friend’s place in Rabie Ridge,” said Kgasago.

Kgasago said the man held the woman against her will at his friend’s place in Rabie Ridge where he assaulted and repeatedly raped her at knife-point from Tuesday afternoon until the next morning.

“The victim eventually had a chance to escape when the perpetrator’s friend arrived from work in the early hours of June 13.

“The perpetrator pretended to be going out for a smoke and disappeared.

“At midday on June 13 the EMPD Community Liaison Unit members were provided with information of the kidnapping and rape by the SAPS members,” Kgasago explained.

He said law enforcers went out to search for the suspect accompanied by the victim. The suspect was located in Rabie Ridge at 2pm and was immediately arrested and detained at the Rabie Ridge police station.

The suspect was expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on June 15 to face charges of kidnapping, assault and rape.
