Five years for five pieces of underwear

Dumisani Hlatshwayo (38) was sentenced to five years imprisonment for shoplifting in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on June 21.

Hlatshwayo was caught stealing at a clothing store on West Street in the CBD on December 7 last year.

“It was discovered that the accused stole five pieces of male underwear when a security officer searched him. Police were called to the scene and the accused was arrested,” said Const Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson at Kempton Park SAPS.

“The case was investigated by Det Tokyo Nemanashi. Brig Samuel Maredi, station commander at Kempton Park SAPS, wants to send a strong message to other would-be criminals who go around stores stealing that they will face the full might of the law.”
