WATCH: Four months left before Dann Road reservoir is completed

Locals are still urged to save water.

The Dann Road reservoir is 95 per cent complete, with only about four months of fine-tuning left to go.

At 60m in diametre, this concrete creation will hold up to 25 million litres of water, about 10 Olympic-sized swimming pools, supplied by Rand Water.

This, however, does not mean that beneficiary residents should be wasteful with water.

“This reservoir is mainly to boost water supply,” MMC for water, sanitation and energy Tiisetso Nketle told Express on site. “We are preparing the area for the future. We do not want to struggle like drought-stricken Cape Town.”

If water outages were to occur, the reservoir will have a 24-hour storage capacity to supply Aston Manor, Nimrod Park, Pomona, Bredell and Glen Marais extensions with water.

According to water and sanitation head of department Mduduzi Shabangu, the reservoir should be completed by October 30.

“Minor things like cleaning the yard, laying paving, building a guard house and water tower remain.”

This water tower, said Nketle, will elevate water and help with water pressure issue in the area.

“This issue is not always due to the reservoir but the people’s houses themselves,” she added.

Once the reservoir is completed, a water test will be done to make sure that there are no leakages.

“If so, the leakages will be repaired and the reservoir will be filled,” Nketle added.
