A suspect was arrested near Festival Mall on common robbery charges after he attacked and robbed a woman on June 18.
“The woman alleges she was walking alone towards Festival Mall when a man walked past her but quickly turned back towards her. He demanded that she give him her cellphone,” said Const Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“The victim refused to hand over her cellphone and the suspect grabbed it but she fought the suspect and managed to get her cellphone back. The suspect then grabbed her by her trousers and took cash worth R1 000 that was in one of her pockets and ran away. She screamed for help.”
Members of the community caught the suspect and police were called to the scene and arrested the suspect.
