Tswelapele man (59) nabbed for alleged rape of minor (15)

The 15-year-old girl and her mother had an argument during which she stormed out of the home and left.

Ivory Park SAPS have arrested a 59-year-old man from Tswelopele, Ivory Park, for the alleged rape of a minor.

The alleged rape and subsequent arrest took place on July 17.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, a 15-year-old girl and her mother had an argument during which she stormed out of the home and left.

“The mother went to look for her at her school but she was directed to the old man’s place. The girl then confided in her mother that Mdala, as the suspect is commonly known in that area, had slept with her with a promise of buying her new clothes and a cellphone. The mother and other members of the community immediately called the police who promptly arrested the suspect,” said Matimulane.

Matimulane added the case was then handed to the local unit of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences as it is required, for further investigations.

He is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to face a charge of rape of a minor.

“Children must continuously be encouraged to speak up whenever something is bothering them. They must at all times be informed that it is not their fault that someone had violated, if they have been violated, them and must speak up without being afraid of any judgement from the family members,” said Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS.
