Birch Acres man causes accident, threatens to shoot other driver

By 2pm on Monday afternoon, it was still unclear whether bail was granted

A small car accident in Birch Acres quickly escalated to attempted murder on Saturday after the driver who caused the accident, threatened to shoot the person whose car he drove into.

According to W/O Mahlodi Langa, acting spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, the victim was seated in a stationary vehicle when another driver crashed into his car.

“Both parties had somewhere to be, so the complainant insisted that the accused gave him something (an item) to hold onto until the accused could repair the damage,” Langa said.

The accused drove to his house at around 10pm to show the complainant where he lives. The latter insisted he would only leave the property once he was given an item.

“When the complainant refused to leave, the accused took out his firearm and shot a warning shot into the air,” Langa explained.

The victim called the police, who arrested the suspect and charged him with attempted murder. According to Langa, the suspect was to appear in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday to apply for bail.

By 2pm on Monday afternoon, it was still unclear whether bail was granted.
