Life 4 You Foundation embarks on poverty relief project

After the Clean-up campaign, the organisation’s team then hosted elderly people to a free special lunch

Life 4 You Foundation has marked Madiba Day through their clean-up campaign and poverty relief efforts.

In the chilly early hours of Wednesday, members of the NGO in partnership with several stakeholders and individuals were hands-on, cleaning the polluted stream between Mashemong and Moriting areas.

The Clear River Campaign is one of the flagship public awareness campaigns of the National Department of Water and Sanitation. Its primary objective is to actively engage communities as well as promoting and creating on-going awareness and education on protecting South African water resources.

Ward 100 councillor Mphokwane Mabotha joined by community members who volunteered to clean up a stream for the 67 Minutes of Mandela Day.

The river was cleaned through collaborative efforts and partnership with Hennops Blue Project, National Department of Water and Sanitation, Gauteng Regional Office of the Department of Water and Sanitation, CWP, Ward 100 councillor Phokwane Mabotha, committee members, ANC Ward 100 branch and Life 4 U Foundation volunteers.

“Life 4 U Foundation is proud to have partnered with various organisations, City of Ekurhuleni, and local partners to clean the stream. 40+ full rubbish bags tell one that our streams are now becoming dumping sites. And the campaign is positively impacting lives because this year we can see both young and older people cleaning streams and this is good news in terms of active volunteerism in the community,” said by the founder of Life 4 U Foundation, Simo Molekwa.

After the Clean-up campaign, the organisation’s team then hosted elderly people to a free special lunch.

When doing so, members of Life 4 U Foundation were joined by staff from Tiger Brand, Gauteng CCMA and Miss Africa 2019 Finalist Precious Molomo.

Molekwa said they wanted to acknowledge elderly people on Mandela Day.

“We are thankful to have companies such as Tiger Brand and CCMA who came to make a difference to the lives of our elderly. They donated food parcels, sanitary towels, toiletries, baby clothing. Miss Africa Finalist Precious Molomo made sure that our children also benefit on the day when she donated party packs. And of course, we are not forgetting our main sponsors Mr Carlos of Oakmor Butchery and Iwisa Maize Meal,” added Molekwa.

Molekwa said that other stakeholders who joined the campaign included staff from the Department of Social Development, Khulisanani Message of Hope and EMM HIV Unit. Tiger Brand’s representative Prince Molise said it was a privilege for them to be part and parcel of Life 4 U Foundation’s project on Mandela Day.

“We’ve learnt a lot on the day. By seeing selfless young people such as Simon and his team taking a stand for the community, was an eye-opener for Tiger Brand’s team,” added Molise.
