Xolani Dube was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on July 10.
Six years of the sentence had been suspended.
Dube was arrested for stealing a copper cable on Anvil Road in Isando on March 5.
“A security officer, who was busy with patrols, spotted the accused and found him in possession of a copper cable worth R10 000,” said Const Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
“The accused was also found in possession of a pick handle, hacksaw and spade, suspected to have been used to steal the copper cable.”
Police was called to the scene and arrested the suspect.
