Illegal shebeen closed at Pomona truck stop

Dagga and cash were also found on the premises

An illegal shebeen at a truck stop in Pomona was shut down by the police on July 20.

During the operation, which included AfriForum Kempton Park’s neighbourhood watch, the police and a security company, alcohol and drugs were also seized at the premises.

One suspect was arrested, said Jan Vermaak, chairperson of AfriForum Kempton Park.

According to Vermaak they followed up on information received from the public.

“Our proto team went to the suspect’s premises, which is used as an overnight truck stop. The suspect was found on the scene, where he sold alcohol to clients without the required permit. The manager of the premises was contacted after which the illegal shebeen was closed down. The police arrested the suspect.

“Upon further investigation of the premises, one of the proto team members found dagga along with cash. The dagga and cash were seized by the police and taken to the police station along with several cases of alcohol,” Vermaak said.
