Kempton Council for the Ages R5.7-m in the red
The home hopes to have a bigger income and fewer expenses next year.
Kempton Park Council for the Aged reported a R5.7-million shortfall in its most recent financial year, which ended on March 31. This was made public at their annual general meeting at Allen Park on Wednesday last week.
“Aside from our usual expenses, we’ve done necessary refurbishments and maintenance to our units, which cost a pretty penny,” executive officer André Naudé said.
The council’s total income for the year was R17.9-million. This is according to Christo Dorfling, who read the financial statement as audited by PKF Octagon Chartered Accountants. However, this sum was not enough to cushion the expenses of R23.6-million.

Some of the council’s biggest expenditures were R8-million for salaries and contributions, R6.6-million for rent and maintenance and R2.3-million for municipal services.
Dorfling said finances would look better next year when the home expects an income of R20-million and expenses of only R21.8-million. This R1.8-million shortfall will be much less than the current R5.7-million.
A new management board was also elected. The chairperson is Etienne Fourie, with Aletta van der Merwe as vice-chairperson.
The role of secretary went to Tjaard van der Walt and Quentin Smith is treasurer.
The additional members are Jan du Toit, Collin Howell, Ansie Basson, Sakkie Bosman and Christo Jansen van Vuuren.
