More worms found in municipal water in Kempton

This, two months after a Birchleigh resident found two creepy crawlies in her water.

Another Kempton Park resident has come forward with water woes, stating that he too found a worm in his municipal water.

This comes after Birchleigh resident Ina Cloete (63) found two in her water in May.

The Ekurhuleni municipality acted swiftly, stating that it was most likely an isolated incident. After investigating her property, a water quality officer found that the issue was due to Cloete’s own plumbing, which was above ground and had a leak.

“I would like to know how the municipality can say we don’t have to worry,” Norkem Park resident Christo Green asked Express. According to him, he found a similar worm in his water on July 23.

According to Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the municipality, the matter is being taken seriously.

“The city, through the Water and Sanitation Department, is currently investigating the matter and will provide feedback once investigations are completed.”
