Ebony Park man jailed for 15 years for killing his friend

The deceased succumbed to his injuries a few days after being admitted to Tembisa Hospital

The Ivory Park SAPS has welcomed another 15-year jail sentence handed to an Ebony Park man for the murder of his friend.

Enoch Bongani Mathonsi (37) was on July 20 convicted by the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court for the murder of Abram Msimango last year.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, following a night of drinking the two apparently had an argument, which led to Mathonsi reaching for the nearest table knife and fatally stabbing Msimango once in the chest.

“The deceased succumbed to his injuries a few days after being admitted to Tembisa Hospital. Mathonsi is the second person to have received 15 years effective imprisonment this month alone for murder, thanks to the sterling work done by the Ivory Park SAPS detectives. Earlier this month another man, Xolani Prince Mdaka (23) of Kaalfontein was also handed 15 years by the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court for the 2017 fatal stabbing of his then-girlfriend, Moipone Mokgalabone (21), at the former’s home. Mdaka’s case was a domestic violence related murder,” said Matimulane.

Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, said: “Witnesses are playing a crucial role in assisting us in achieving these convictions. We call on any member of the community to take note that the failure of key witnesses to rise to the occasion may result in very serious cases being lost.”

Ngcobo is further appealing to the community of Ebony Park and Kaalfontein to assist the police in solving a spate of robberies currently going on in that area.
