An online petition has been created by the DA councillors in Kempton Park to object to the refuse removal fiasco in the city.
“As most residents know, the refuse department in Kempton Park has once again collapsed. There are several issues hampering service delivery within the department,” they said.
“Despite several meetings with department managers and the chief operating officer and the reassurance they would clear backlogs, we have been let down again by the department. There has been little to zero improvement.

The petition reads: “We, the undersigned residents of Kempton Park and surrounding areas hereby petition the MMC of environmental resources and waste management, Councillor Ndosi Shongwe, to adhere to the City of Ekurhuleni Waste Service Standards, policies, including by-laws and the environmental waste act, to ensure that we (residents) receive our scheduled regular waste collection service.
“These regulations have not been adhered to for the past five months and is seriously affecting the confidence of residents that Ekurhuleni is a smart and developmental city.”
