Women to celebrate Women’s Day with sport

This year marks the sixth edition of the Tembisa Women’s Games

To celebrate and commemorate Women’s Day, Tembisa women will flock to Ecaleni Sports Ground 2 on August 9 to take part in a variety of sporting activities.

Nthabi Morata, the founder of Tembisa Women’s Games, said she launched the games to promote a culture of active, healthy living and to keep the youth away from anti-social and destructive activities.

“The aim of this particular event is to promote a healthy lifestyle, share ideas and also discuss important issues that affect women. One of our aims is to raise funds through the event and assist those who are less privileged,” added Morata.

This year marks the sixth edition of the Tembisa Women’s Games.

The participants will be taking part in ladies soccer, netball, volleyball, table tennis, aerobics, indigenous games, fun walk and wheelchair race.

The event will start with a fun walk at about 8am, followed by aerobics and the games will start at 10am. The fee for the fun walk is R50.

“Community members who are interested in taking part, are welcome,” said Morata.
