Mooifontein Cemetery murder accused remains in custody
Preliminary investigations indicate that residents heard a woman screaming and pleading for her life during the incident.
Matome Victor Rampedi appeared in the Thembisa Magistrates’ Court on October 6, where he faced a charge of murder following the discovery of Ntombifuthi Nxumalo’s body at Mooifontein Cemetery in the Vusimusi section of Thembisa.
The state indicated that it was ready to proceed with the formal bail application and confirmed that it would oppose bail.
However, the defence requested additional time to consult with Rampedi.

The court postponed the matter to October 19 for the formal bail application. Rampedi remains in custody.
Nxumalo’s body was found naked at the cemetery with serious head injuries. The state alleges that she was fatally assaulted.
It is alleged that Nxumalo had been drinking at a local tavern with a female acquaintance before leaving in the company of Rampedi.
Preliminary investigations indicate that residents living near the cemetery heard a woman screaming and pleading for her life during the incident.
