Birch Acres girl is a finalist in Miss Deaf SA

Miss Deaf SA finalist Simoné Smit is not letting her disability get in the way of her beauty.

A 22-year-old from Birch Acres is a finalist at Miss Deaf SA this year.

Simoné Smit was born with only 12% hearing in her left ear and 25% in her right ear. Her mother did not take that as a disability and sent her to a normal school.

That was where she learned the skill of reading lips. Simoné entered Miss Deaf SA at the end of February and was announced as top three of eight girls at the beginning of August.

“I am really excited to be part of this pageant and I want to make a difference in people’s lives. I want them to know that a disability doesn’t stop you from being a person who is able,” said Simoné.

She is part of Boksburg Lions Club and has done some charity work to give back to the community at Tshepang Children Care Centre in Tembisa, where she raised funds to get 37 children supplies such as blankets, clothes, food and toiletries.

The pageant will take place on October 13 at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria.

Simoné is in need of sponsors for her wardrobe. Sponsors will get media coverage and advertisements on the night of the pageant.

If you would like to sponsor her wardrobe, contact Simoné on 074 527 8341 or Hannelie on 063 289 5429
