Refuse removal woes taken to parliament

The collection of refuse is not a difficult task, says MP.

The refuse removal shambles in Kempton Park is headed for parliament.

DA MP Mike Waters said: “It is unacceptable that residents of Kempton Park are subjected to the incompetence of Ekurhuleni metro week after week. The anger of residents is justified and the mayor needs to understand the anger.

“The collection of refuse is not a difficult task and the council ought to know how many houses need servicing each week and should have adequate vehicles and staff to deliver a service.

“There are also concerns around the awarding of the contract and who actually was awarded the contract. These are the questions I am asking the Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs,” Waters said in a statement.

“If there are any suspicious actions with regards to the awarding of the tender, we will expose it. For too long citizens of our country have been forced to accept substandard services in order for a few people to benefit financially. The DA councillors have initiated an online petition and all residents are encouraged to sign it.”
