Ekurhuleni Metro to auction off about 60 000 wheelie bins
The metro will be auctioning wheelie bins on August 14 and 15.
An estimated 60 000 wheelie bins are expected to be auctioned by the metro from August 14.
According to the auctioneers, Spokes Auctioneers, there are too many wheelie bins at various sites.
The invite to the auction is extended to “interested parties, waste and recycling companies”.
There are two auction days with two auctions on both days at different sites.
The auction details are:
Auction Day One
• Site One: August 14 from 10am at the Springs Depot, Stadium Road, Geduld Extension Four. Same-day-viewing will be from 8am to 10am.
• Site Two: August 14 from 2pm at the Alberton Depot, corner of Mitchel Michelle Avenue and Swartkoppies Road. Same-day-viewing will be from 1pm to 2pm.
Auction Day Two
• Site Three: August 15 from 10am at the Bedfordview Depot, corner of Skeen Boulevard and Nicol Road roads (opposite the Nicol Hotel). Same-day-viewing will be from 8am to 10am.
• Site Four: August 15 from 2pm at the Edenvale Depot, corner of Lalha and Bhala avenues, Sebenza. Same-day-viewing will be from 1pm to 2pm.
Express sent questions to the metro regarding the auctioning of the wheelie bins but received no reply. The questions included:
• How will the auctioned wheelie bins affect the municipal accounts? For example, if a resident attends the auction and purchases more wheelie bins, will those auctioned wheelie bins be added to their municipal accounts?
• Are the wheelie bins micro-chipped?
• How many wheelie bins are expected to be auctioned (exact figure)?
