Artists prepare for Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards

Entries for the Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards to open soon.

The City of Ekurhuleni in collaboration with the Lizamore & Associates Mentorship Programme is calling on all artists to enter the prestigious, nationally acclaimed Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards. This will be the 31st edition of this award.

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality spokesperson Themba Gadebe said all artwork must be ready and suitable for exhibition.

“The judges will select an exhibition of the best artwork.

“The artwork must have been completed in the 12 months preceding the closing entry date,” said Gadebe.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services Clr Dora Mlambo said they encourage artists who specialise in the contemporary fine art to start preparing their work in time before the set final submission dates.

“This is to allow everyone an opportunity to participate in the competition by submitting impressive artwork,” said Mlambo.

The submission dates for the 2018 awards are as follows:

Artwork may be submitted from August 21 to 23 between 9am – 7pm at the Coen Scholtz Recreation Centre, Mooifontein Road, Birchleigh, North Kempton Park.

Entries may also be submitted at Boksburg Library on August 21, between 9am- 4pm; Springs Art Gallery on August 21 and 22 between 9am- 9pm; and at Katlehong Art Centre, 203 Sontonga Street, Phooko Section, on August 22 between 9pm- 4pm.

The entry fee is R50 per artwork entered.
