Tracking system leads EMPD to stolen industrial generator

The metro police expect to make an arrest soon.

Thieves who stole an industrial generator never thought it would be fitted with a tracking device.

The metro police tracked the generator to a house in Kanana Extension Five in Rabie Ridge on Wednesday night last week.

According to Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesperson, the generator disappeared from a construction site in Phomolong in Tembisa. What the thieves did not know, was that the trailer-mounted generator was fitted with a tracker.

“Tracker SA communicated information of the missing trailer to the metro police who immediately jumped into action and recovered the generator. The generator was found completely covered with tarpaulin, apparently to hide it,” Kgasago said.

A woman found at the house claimed it was her husband, who was not home, who had knowledge of the generator. Several phone calls to lure the suspect home were in vain.

The metro police expect to make an arrest soon. The trailer was returned to the owners after formalities were completed.
