Lights burn day and night in Birch Acres Street

If the lights have been on day and night for six weeks, that would mean that they’ve been blazing for 1 008 hours.

A Birch Acres man says street lights in his area have been burning day and night for at least six weeks.

“At least, that’s when I started counting,” the Bontrokkie Crescent resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told Express.

When Express visited the area at about 2pm, all the lights in the crescent, including in an adjoining street, Piet-my-Vrou, were still on.

“I would just like to know who is paying for this?” the man asked. “We are already paying such high tariffs in Ekurhuleni, yet the lights keep on burning.”

According to Clr Sibanyoni Ndala, he is aware of lights burning in the area. “Although the lights in Bontrokkie Crescent have not been reported to me, I have lodged a complaint with the city about similar situations,” Sibanyoni told Express.

The municipality has been contacted for comment.

Blazing day and night. According to a Birch Acres resident, this issue has been going on for almost two months.
