Tembisa South SAPS arrested two suspects and seized an unlicensed firearm on August 17.
Tembisa South SAPS communications officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela said on Friday, August 10, a member of the community was robbed of cash and some cigarettes that he sells next to Ehlanzeni Hostel.
“In the morning of August 17, the victim managed to identify the suspect, who was on his way to Tembisa Plaza. He followed the suspect. When the suspect arrived at the Plaza, the complainant grabbed him and held him tightly.
“The two started to fight and the suspect pulled out the firearm and shot the complainant in his middle body. The second round missed the victim and broke the glass of the Post Office.
“During the wrestling, the firearm fell down.
“One of the Zimbabwean nationals, who was a bystander, picked up the firearm and hid it where he sells his merchandise,” Sekgobela said.
“The police were summoned to the scene. On arrival they searched the area and found the hidden special Taurus and two empty cartridges.
“The suspect was already assaulted by members of the community.
“Both the suspect and the one who hid the firearm were arrested.”
The complainant, together with the suspect, who sustained serious injuries while being assaulted by the community, was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
She said the bystander who hid the firearm was arrested for defeating the ends of justice and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
