A scrapyard owner was robbed of cash while paying his employees at Vusimuzi Section on August 31.
Tembisa South SAPS communications officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela said two suspects approached the scrapyard owner and his employees. One of the suspects threatened the owner with a firearm and the suspects demanded money.
“They took an undisclosed amount of cash and fired a shot in the complainant’s direction before they ran away.
Later on, one of the suspects, who was carrying the firearm, was hit by a car and fell on the street, not far away from the scene.
“The firearm was found next to the suspect, while the money, which he robbed, was allegedly picked up by members of the community who saw him during the time of the accident,” Sekgobela explained.
Sekgobela said the suspect was arrested on the scene and taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court after his recovery from his injuries to face his charges of business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm.
