Tembisa SAPS is seeking assistance from the public or any witness to come forward regarding the murder of an unknown man at an open veld in Esselen Park.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the police were alerted to the body’s presence by two men who called the police.
“The two witnesses were hunting in the area on September 9 when one of their dogs drew their attention to something which they then realised was a badly burnt body of an African male whose identity is not known as yet,” said Matimulane.
Matimulane emphasised that a five-litre bottle, smelling what resembled petrol, was found near the body.
“It is not yet known what the motive of the murder might be. All the necessary police experts were called to the scene to gather the evidence. The Tembisa SAPS is appealing to anyone whose family member or loved one is missing to make contact with them, and for any person who may know something about this murder to come forward,” added Matimulane.
Anyone with information may contact the Tembisa SAPS on 011 926 2970 or the police crime stop number on 08600 10111.
