A 28-year-old man from Kaalfontein has been arrested by the Ivory Park SAPS on September 9 for the alleged possession of firearm, which contained 14 rounds of live ammunition.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, he was apprehended by the community who badly assaulted him before calling the police.

“He is in hospital receiving treatment. The man is one of the many suspects arrested by the police in the Ekurhuleni North Cluster during the weekend of September 9 as the police went all out to ensure residents are and feel safe,” said Matimulane.

He added three suspects have been arrested by the Ivory Park and Rabie Ridge police for possession of suspected stolen and hijacked motor vehicles.

“One of the vehicles had been hijacked in Midrand and was later found in possession of the suspect in Ivory Park. Furthermore, 40 suspects have been arrested for allegedly driving motor vehicles while under the influence of alcohol, while 230 suspects have been arrested for alleged possession of drugs and a further seven illegal suspects were arrested. All of these suspects were arrested in all of the nine police stations which together are part of the Ekurhuleni North Cluster,” he explained.

Matimulane said the suspects are expected to appear in the Kempton Park and Tembisa Magistrate’s Courts.
