Two killed on N3 as truck crashes into them while pushing car

The bodies of the two men were found next to the road.

Two of three men pushing their broken down vehicle on the N3 were killed when they were hit by a truck around 10.30pm on Monday night.

A third person man was lucky to escape unscathed.

William Ntladi, spokesperson for Ekurhuleni Disater and Emergency Services, said the accident happened on the N3 northbound about a kilometre from the Barry Marais off-ramp.

The truck crashed into them from behind.

Rescue teams from Vosloorus responded to the scene. The bodies of the two men were found next to the road.

“It is believed the hatchback light motor vehicle, on its way to Palm Ridge from Kwa-Zulu Natal, experienced a mechanical breakdown almost half a kilometre before the Barry Marais off-ramp. All three men were pushing the car before the truck, which came from behind, crashed into thems. The occupants of the truck escaped with no injuries.

An inquest docket has been opened by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department officers. The N3 north had to be closed for the duration of the scene operations.
