Five suspects are still at large following an ATM bombing at an Engen garage on Zuurfontein Road in the early hours of Monday morning.
According to Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso, spokesperson for Sebenza SAPS, she heard the explosion at 2.10am at her home in Esther Park.
“Moments before the bombing, a police van stopped next to a silver Polo to speak to the driver, who was on his cellphone,” Tsotsotso explained.

Police would later discover that four suspects arrived in the silver Polo. Three exited the car to bomb the ATM and fled with a fifth suspect waiting in an unknown black vehicle, while the Polo driver drove off in a different direction.
“Police chased the black car, not knowing the Polo’s involvement at the time, but the suspect got away.
Tsotsotso added no money was stolen during the incident.
“Perhaps they were scared off by the patrol vehicle.”
She did, however, add the employees of the garage were left traumatised but no one was injured.
