Two men were arrested and a few are still at large following a scooter theft in Birchleigh last week Thursday.
According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, two police sector members were patrolling the area at 4am when they spotted a driver in a white Nissan bakkie driving slowly with the vehicle’s hazards switched on.

“The members found this suspicious and drove behind the vehicle with their car’s lights switched off,” Molokomme told Express.
On the corner of Mooifontein and Modderfontein roads, an unknown number of men came out of the bushes next to the road and loaded a scooter onto the back of the bakkie.
“The two officers approached the suspects’ car, upon which they sped off,” Molokomme explained.

A chase ensued during which an unknown number of suspects, who were seated on the back of the bakkie, escaped while the vehicle was in motion.
“Police managed to arrests two suspects who were inside the vehicle,” Molokomme said. According to him, a 9mm pistol was found in the bakkie, as well as live ammunition.
It was later discovered that the scooter was reported stolen from Quintus van der Walt Street in Norkem Park that same evening.
