Esther Park couple nabbed in their drug lab home

Bags of magnesium stearate worth R5-million and Mandrax tablets worth R4-million were confiscated.

An Esther Park husband and wife were arrested on Wednesday morning following the discovery of drug lab in their Amatungulu Street home.

Police were lead to the house by the wife’s brother after police had discovered drug mixtures in his home on Zuurfontein Road in Cresslawn.

According to Sebenza SAPS spokesperson Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) was following information about a possible drug manufacturing lab operating in Esther Park since June.

These investigations lead them to the house on Zuurfontein Road.

“At the house, the police found the owner. Upon searching the house, 12 bags of magnesium stearate and buckets with drug mixtures were found. The owner of the house informed them the bags and the drug mixtures belonged to his brother-in-law,” said Tsotsotso.

The owner voluntarily took the police to the brother-in-law’s house on Amatungulu Street in Esther Park.

Upon arrival, the husband (47) and his wife (38) were found in the house.

“As the police searched the house, 100 to 200 tablets of Mandrax were found in a container. They also found cooling fans, pots and buckets in one of the bedrooms,” Tsotsotso continued.

The suspects were arrested and detained at Sebenza SAPS on a charge of manufacturing and dealing in drugs.

The bags of magnesium stearate found in the house in Cresslawn are worth about R5-million, while the Mandrax tablets found at the house in Esther Park are worth about R4-m.
