According to the Tembisa SAPS communications officer, Const Patricia Mgijima, the Ivory Park SAPS police officers were patrolling just a few meters from the taxi rank when they heard a loud bang and saw excessive smoke.

“The police took cover as they were calling for a backup. After the smoke has settled, the officers noticed that a Standard Bank ATM was bombed. The screen and outer part of the machine were badly damaged,” said Mgijima.

She explained two boxes of money were still intact.

“The suspects did not manage to take any cash. A front roof of a house situated next to the machine was damaged. No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made,” said Mgijima.
