Ivory Park SAPS arrested a 35-year-old man on Sunday for the alleged fatal stabbing of another over a girlfriend in Tswelopele, in the Ivory Park policing precinct.
According to an eyewitness, hell broke loose when the woman’s ex-boyfriend sent her a please call me message, which then enraged her current boyfriend.
The Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Capt Bernard Matimulane, said the livid boyfriend is alleged to have called the other man, whereby insults were exchanged over the phone.
“The deceased, who was the current boyfriend, was challenged by the suspect to come outside the gate for a fight. The fight did not last long as the deceased was allegedly stabbed three times, in the thigh and the chest, by the suspect. He was certified dead on the scene. The suspect was arrested shortly after the murder after the police managed to locate him at his place of residence,” added Matimulane.
He said the man has been charged with murder and he is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court to face the charge levelled against him.
The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brig David Mbongeni Ngcobo, is concerned that this sort of interpersonal violence is prevalent in the Ivory Park area, and that the fact that most victims and perpetrators are known to each other makes policing difficult.
“It is clear the two know each other via the woman involved. The fact that one of them has failed to make peace with the fact that he was no longer in this woman’s life, has ultimately brought about this murder,” said Ngcobo.
