Get ready to recycle with MES and AfriForum

The bins have been designed to be aesthetic and environmentally friendly

The refuse removal crisis in Kempton Park may be getting residents down but Kempton Park AfriForum has taken hands with the local MES to promote recycling.

On May 29, in a campaign called #YourTown, these two organisations launched a long-term recycling project.

This project will see recycling bins placed at schools and churches across the East Rand. Once the bins are full, MES will remove the refuse and use the income from the recycled goods for job creation.

So far, a bin had been placed in Van Riebeeck Estate and at Kaleideo Apostolic Faith Mission Church in Glen Marais.

Gerald Britt, the environmental affairs chairperson at Kempton Park’s AfriForum, is proud of the recycling project launched with Kempton Park’s MES.

According to Gerald Britt, environmental affairs chairperson at Kempton Park’s AfriForum, this is a unique project.

“The bins have been designed to be aesthetic and environmentally friendly.”

Marie Naudé, AfriForum’s coordinator for the East Rand, said this project is the perfect example of residents that are proactive.

“Community members and organisations are walking the walk and talking the talk in making their towns neater and safer. We look forward to seeing the potential that can be achieved within the next year.”

To contribute R1 to this project, residents can SMS ‘Herwin’ to 45342.
