WATCH: Tilbury Fort to run for Kempton Express’ charity in Emperors Charity Mile
With 16 horses, 16 celebrities, 16 charities and five feature races the Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile promises to be spectacular.
The glitzy R1-million Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile will take place at Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday.
Drawn 10th, Tilbury Fort will run with Kempton Express as media partner in aid of Welamlambo Primary School in Tembisa.
The draw to pair celebrities, charities, horses and media partners took place at Emperors Palace last week Wednesday.
Celebrity Thandy Matlaila was drawn as Express’ celebrity.
Matlaila, who is an actress, dancer, choreographer, entertainer and television presenter, joins the Charity Mile for the second time around.
“I am excited to be a part of this amazing event again,” she said.
“This is a different way of giving back and I am happy that I partnered with the same charity again. I was with the children just a few days ago and they are amazing.
“This is my second year but I keep learning something new about horses and horse races, which is great. I encourage more people to get involved in this event as it is for a good cause.”
With 16 horses, 16 celebrities, 16 charities and five feature races the event promises to be spectacular.
The event will see the celebrities and supporters dressed to the nines as they come together to support the Charity Mile and witness some good horse racing.
The charities involved benefit from the event as each charity will receive a share of the money.
The winning charity will receive R150 000, second R100 000 and the other 14 charities all getting proportionate amounts of the total donation, depending on the horse’s placement.
Simply put, the racehorse’s finishing positions in the Charity Mile determine what portion of the R1-million goes to their respective charities.
