The City of Ekurhuleni is switching to alternative water supplies as a result of an interruption in the water supply from Rand Water.
Ward councillor Jaco Terblanche said an SMS was sent out by an engineer at the water department informing councillors about the situation.
The greater Kempton Park area will be affected and many residents will experience low water pressure.
Terblanche said the Jan Smuts, Kempton Park West and Norkem Park reservoirs will be opened to ensure a water supply to the city.
Asked how long this situation could last, Terblanche said it could be day or two.
