Kempton Express’ horse wins R100 000 for Welamlambo Primary School

Tilbury Fort managed to win R100 000 for a good cause

Glamorous people, beautiful horses and competitive jockeys gathered at Turffontein Racetrack on November 4 for a day of glitzy racing for a good cause.

The annual R1-million Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile saw to it that 16 charities benefited from the frace which took place on the day.

Each charity was paired with a local celebrity, racehorse and media partner.

Kempton Express was particularly proud of its horse Tilbury Fort who, with the guidance of SA champion jockey Lyle Hewitson, thundered to cross the line in second place.

The lucky number-13 horse and jockey dressed in yellow managed to secure R100 000 for Welamlambo Primary School in Tembisa. “I am so proud to be associated with this,” said Express’ paired celeb, actress Thandy Matlaila, dressed in a stunning yellow dress.

“We were bound to be a winning duo, see how we’re even matching,” she laughed.

Inches in front of Tilbury Fort was winner Coral Fever, ridden by jockey Muzi Yeni, who won R150 000 for their charity Khangezile Primary School.

Third place went to racehorse Doosra, who was partnered with singer Nhlanhla Nciza and charity Nali’ibali, a national reading-for-enjoyment campaign.
