Glen Marikana resident behind bars for domestic violence

The accused violated a protection order served against him by his former girlfriend.

Alfred Mofokeng (30) was sentenced to six months imprisonment or R5 000 in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on November 8 for the constant abuse of his former girlfriend.

Prior to his arrest, Mofokeng had been physically abusing his former girlfriend for some time.

“The victim was with her friends on Commissioner Street on the night of September 20, enjoying drinks, when Mofokeng forcefully took her to his place in Glen Marikana on Dann Road, where he assaulted her,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.

“The assault happened despite the fact that Mofokeng was previously served with a protection order, so he violated the order and was arrested on the same day the matter was reported.”

The suspect was kept in custody until his sentencing.

Mtshali added: “We are pleased with the sentence as we believe it will deter other would-be women abusers that they will face the might of the law.”

At the time of going to print, Mofokeng had not paid the fine and was still in custody, Mtshali said.
