ECD children showcase their skills at Tembisa Nursery School Competition

Atleha Champions Club develops children’s intellect in Tembisa.

Atleha Champions Club hosted its second edition of the Tembisa Nursery School competition on October 26.

Founder of the Atleha Champions Club Dikeledi Ranoto said during their first Tembisa Nursery School competition in April they had invited five local crèches to participate. However, this time they hosted 20 crèches with 200 children between the ages of four to six tears participating in the event.

“The number shows immense growth and interest nursery schools have in ensuring children’s intellectual and physical health are taken care of during this fun and educational event,” said Ranoto.

She said the schools showcased their skills and children gave a display of what they are taught, in keeping with the curriculum set by the Department of Social Development and the Department of Education.

“Atleha Champions Club, an NPO, creates a platform that ensures children’s intellectual health is supported and prioritised at schools, while teachers get encouraged to take pride in their work.”

During the competition, children explored their skills with the guidance of teachers.

Bringing out the best from the children through nurturing. The Atleha Champions Club hosted more than 200 children from about 20 creches in Tembisa.

Three judges, Ayanda Tetyana, founder of Tswelopele Kids and early childhood education specialist; Ndzavi Derrick, entrepreneur and event facilitator, and Thabiso Kekana, ECD regional manager, adjudicated.

“We want to give special thanks to them for taking the time to assist in making the day a success and ensuring that scoring is fair,” Ranoto added.

His Grace Daycare Centre, which is located in Winnie Mandela Zone 10, won first place.

Educator at the creche Dimakatso Manenzhe said the centre would like to thank Atleha Champions Club for giving them an opportunity to participate in this competition.

“We thank them for believing in us. We are happy and proud to be the overall winners of this competition.

“The activities were so fun and helpful. We have also learnt a lot,” said Manenzhe.

Ranoto thanked the sponsors – Food Lovers Market, Nestle Company, New DiscoveryBS, Zoom Company, Rand Water and Department of Social Development – for their support in making the event a success.
