The South African Weather Service has recorded high temperatures in Ekurhuleni this week and forecast the continuation of high temperatures, reaching highs of 35°C, for the remainder of the week.
The weather conditions have therefore, reached a heatwave proportions.
Ekurhuleni residents are reminded to use water sparingly as they try to stay cool during this heatwave.
The City’s water reservoirs might be running at a reduced level due to high water demand and evaporation in some of the dams that are exposed to the sun. Some parts of the City might also experience low water pressure during the heatwave conditions and residents are requested to use water sparingly.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Water, Sanitation and Energy Clr Tiisetso Nketle urged residents to use water to stay hydrated, yet sparingly, and to avoid direct sunlight and congested places where air ventilation is minimal so as to avoid heatstroke.
“To ensure water is used wisely during these heatwave conditions, residents should refrain from watering the garden, avoid filling swimming pools during the day, and not use a hosepipe when washing cars,” added Nketle.
